How olympians develop their psychological and athletic talents. Talent identi cation is a long-term process that involves not only the talented individual but also a system of support. Performers careers could be broken down into three stages; early years (romance phase), middle years (precision phase), and elite years (integration phase) In early years children develop love for sport and parents emphasize the value of hard work. In precision years promote expert coaching and skill learning. In elite years there continue to work with a senior coach to turn training in to performance and excellence. Families are particularly parents played a key role in elite athlete development as they progressed through sampling, specializing, and investment years. In sampling children participated in many sports. In specialization parents encouraged children to focus on a limited number of sports. In investment years children focus on deliberate practice in effort to ensure pursuit of excellence. Little pressure is placed on children in these years.
