Well known for his research on intersexed infants. Intersexed: babies born with ambiguous genitals because of a hormone imbalance in the womb or some other cause. Penis was accidently cut off during circumcision so the parents made him identify as a girl named brenda. Brenda/bruce actually struggled with their identity from the start and attempted suicide at age 14. Wanted his identity to be changed, became david but ended up committing suicide at 38. Sex: humans are divided into two sexes on the basis of biological features (chromosomes, sex organs, hormones, etc. Gender: your sense of being male or female and your playing masculine and feminine roles in ways defined as appropriate by your culture and society. Gender: a parallel, but not identical distinction between masculinity and femininity. Gender identity: a person"s identification with, or sense of belonging to, a particular sex biologically, psychologically and socially.
