Document Summary

There has been a quite interesting debate on whether enterprises should be large or small. These claims have an important aspect to the decision made by the company in the industry they operate in. Furthermore, they provide a greater aspect and views to the readers. I personally, find that alfred chandler s views are more enthralling. Chandler claims that larger enterprises are able to gain economies of scale leading to lower production costs since cost per unit drops as volume of output rises. Larger enterprises are also able to gain economies of scope, where large plants can use many of same raw and semi-finished materials and intermediate production processes to make variety of different products. This can help gain dominate market share and increase sales thus increasing overall profits. The alternative view of schumacher is less convincing, as it supports the idea of depending upon how the company should be according to the society.
