Organizaions and their environments, more focused on the macro side. 5 month program, 3 months in class receive presentaions by insiders, 2 months circulaing on trading loor. Important were the stories and lessons passed on by traders, street wisdom . 1985 class has a bad reputaion for its bad behavior: biggest class since, needed to relect the future environment, backrow were most mean. They are the primary vehicle that raionalizes our lives, planned, ariculated, scienized, made more eicient and orderly, managed by experts. Max weber: though they are supposed to be value-neutral it sill tends to serve the most powerful. Organizaions transformed from communal (personal) to associaive (contractual) Power elites: controls government, military and large corporaions. Social ills: inhumane ways of operaing that is jusiied by the contractual aspect of organizaions. Capable of accomplishing things beyond any single individual. Commonality: created to pursue certain goals, deine objecive, select and train people to contribute as they are being controlled and coordinated.
