Week 4: healthcare financing and delivery in canada: the public/private mix. At the national level (federal government owned/run) Provincial/territorial (10 provinces and 2 territories) if it is run by them then its considered public. Basically everything that is not defined as government or government owned/run. Examples: small businesses, big business, big private organizations etc. Almost all revenues for public health spending come from the general tax revenue federal/provincial/territorial governments. Almost 43% of funding is directed to hospital and physician services. About 23. 5% of the funding goes to infrastructure, publicly funded or subsidized non medical services. About 30% goes to provide health services. About 3. 5% were allocated for benefits for the special populations, such as first nations living on reserves and inuits residing in the northern territories. Total health spending has exceeded economic growth in almost all oecd countries between 1998-2008. Many say it could be because healthcare is a superior good .
