Going to discuss the unification of theory + practice + relating it to socratic method (in relation to modern social research) Social justice research includes research of social stratification (ranking systems) + social inequality (which is tied to the ranking systems) Social equality is stratified into ranking systems (rs) (rs ex. ethnicity, race, gender, class) 5 d"s that are manifested: differentiate, disproportionate treatment, disadvantage, disparity, discrepancy. Social inequality studies measure the 5 d"s. Other ex. disability (area of discrimination) can be overlooked in society. Ttc was taken to court + said they discriminated against the blind/deaf + stops are now announced. Ex. competing rights (bling prof + student allergic to dogs = having different sections of the class) -> accommodation for both parties for them to function as fully as possible. Social inequality is multidimensional, structural, relational, neutrally reinforcing, and based on power dynamics.
