Syphilis was known as the french disease or the spanish disease or the great pox . Prognosis: now expressed in terms of statistics and survival rates. Drives legal concerns to define and construct disease ( people can claim compensation if the patient suffers for too long/dies against the odds if fault is proved on the part of another) Prognosis, cause, and treatment vary more than the other categories through time. Disease history: cause and treatments in the context of time and place, gives special attention to stability of concepts, why what seems wrong now was right back then.
