Sport can and must be transformed into a site for social and political struggles for justice. Sport is a site of inequality, has problems that people need to pay attention to. Inequality (race, gender, class, sexuality) exist because sport is in broader social context. Some people enjoy privilege at the expense of others, marginalization, dominant and subordinate. Inequality is complex because privilege and oppression do not exist in isolation (ex: person can be privileged in one situation but oppressed in another) Capitalist production relations have lead to growth of wealth for small population at the expense of a much larger population. People born into families that profited from colonialism and capitalism (many of them white) have greater access to education, employment and connections to those with power. Sport produces inequality through homophobia, teaching boys that heterosexuality is necessary. Reproduces inequality through male and female stereotypes, objectification of women"s bodies.
