On his arrival in calcutta, the enterprising singer persuaded his would-be-mentor, the reigning music monarch r. c. boral. Saigal"s first screen appearance was in a bengali film in which he appeared a small role. Saigal made his debut as a hero in new theatres" mohabbat ke ansu (1932) He released the image of the hero from a heavily ornate style and verbosity, carried amidst ostentatious sets, brought down to earth with simplicity and naturalness. In the 1940s, saigal made his phenomenal entry into the bombay film world.
