Science literacy seen as a good thing. Sci. literacy = knowing sci. facts, assumed to be knowledge of scientific facts as with pew poll, it seems sensible. One can reason correctly when have correct facts at hand. If knew more about scientific facts, we would accept vaccination, reality of anthropogenic climate change . Literacy used to explain anti-vaxxers, inaction on climate change, and opposition to transgenic organisms ( gmo"s) Because the public do not know what the scientist know, or think the way scientist think, they predictably fail to take climate change as serious as scientists believe they should. Most scientists believe non-scientists are not scientifically literate . 84% of aas members consider americans limited knowledge about science to be a major problem for the scientific enterprise. Most of the aas members say too little stem education is a major reason that the public has limited science knowledge.
