Worldview: a system of beliefs that are interconnected in something like the way the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle are interconnected. That is, a worldview is not merely a collection of separate, independent, unrelated, beliefs, but is instead an intertwined, interrelated, interconnected system of beliefs. Babylonian and egyptian knowledge of the natural world was advance, but seen as more directed towards practical application. Ancient greeks are first to speculate and create theories about the underlying features of nature. Ex. rational explanation for the movement of the planets. General laws based on regularities observed in nature (induction and deduction) Born in macedonia (384-322 bce), father was court physician. Founder of the lyceum (learning institution) in athens. The aristotelian worldview was the dominant system belief from 300 bc to ad 1600. In the sublunar region, that is, the region between the earth and the moon (including the earth itself ) there are four basic elements, these being earth, water, air, and fire.
