What is the purpose of existence/the meaning of life: the question itself is meaningless/nonsensical. What is it for a person to have existence: everyone has individual goals/reasons for living, money, family, god etc, gives existence a presupposition as well as an end. Ayer believes that there is no end that all lives share: an empirical matter. It can"t just be happiness bc everyone defines it differently: opposition: happiness is the end goal after all regardless of how we achieve it, he continues: knowing what that end is (ex. Happiness) doesn"t give life definitive value/meaning: however, we do all share the end of death, but that is not the purpose bc regardless of what we do, it will happen --. Just because someone else gives you a goal doesn"t mean you want it; it may not be valuable to you: doesn"t give you a justification for your existence (teleology) If anything it will make it infinitely more absurd.
