How did we go from being a canada without canadians to where we are now: canadian national identity has changed over our history through, media and politics personalities, the media primarily transmit opinions on topical issues and, early settlers brought culture/ideology from their countries of origin. These choices help to determine available role models, images of reality, definitions of what is political, concepts of community, and other elements of our political culture: people choose their media sources deliberately, media exposure does not shape a persons political opinions; rather, people choose to expose themselves to media sources that accord with their pre existing political views. Hence, media is more effective at reinforcing peoples opinions that at shaping or changing them: media had an impact through 2 ways, agenda setting function, the media tell people what to think about, what the important issues are, and which political personalities are significant; indeed, the media help define what is political.
