Modern societies are better than pre-modern societies. Once a country industrializes itself it is able to generate a high amount of economic growth, thus allowing for a sizeable working class. When people are earning a higher income there is higher consumption levels. Higher consumption means individuals have more buying power. More buying power allows for more leisure time. This can expose them to more political views, so they become more politically aware and educated. In accordance to lipset"s view of modernization, this is central because the country will have a social base in order for democracy to take root. Democracy has emerged out of supporting institutions and values as well as because of its internal self-maintaining processes. A political system which supplies regular constitutional opportunities for the government officials. A social mechanism for the resolution of conflict between interest groups, which make up the largest population to influence decisions of choosing alternative political contenders.
