Working at a restaurant and a chinese customer comes in and you assume they don"t speak english: changed oil (wanted to help dad but couldn"t do it, brought homeless guy a sandwich. Homeless guy threw the sandwich away and wanted money only. Theories read why we get negative reactions: equity theory: come from the word equal. People aspire (want) to maintain equalness in their relationships. 3 basic assumptions is that people will act to restore equity. Then the other person will react negatively: theory of psychological reactions: jack bremm is the author of this idea. The basic assumption is the people desire freedom of choice. The unpleasantness motivates them to ty and restore freedom. Jack brehm said you"re restricting your freedom by helping them.
