This general feeling seems to have started from the effect of his english teacher"s relationship with him and escalated to a major depressive episode later in his life after being fired from work. This pattern of experiencing an episode only to revert back to a negative cognitive style and general depressed state is what distinguishes jim from other depressive disorders. Also an absence of any hypomanic or manic episodes rule out diagnoses for cyclothymic disorder or disruptive mood dysregulation disorder. Also under criteria (b) was his experience of low levels of energy and fatigue following his suicide attempt when he moved back with his parents causing him to rest a lot and to have virtually no energy .
