Prison attracts social scientists; racism, suicide, conditions of imprisonment. The mip studied the experiences of muslim prisoners in england and wales vs. muslim prisoners in france. (3 prisons) The study was to show how muslims were socially constructed and to see if they were discriminated. Did interviews of 68 muslim prisoners, and 67 interviews with the workers at the jail. Other methods were ethnography, observations and a field-work diary. 9/11 day that the world trade center attacked- the author was interviewing and was afraid they would not let him continue is interviews, but they did. But he noticed they were a little suspicious of him since he was muslim. Prison research presents a number of ethical questions having to do with confidentiality, anonymity and researcher independence. The study was guided by britain"s code of ethics.
