Document Summary

Lecture two: sociological theories and concepts of education. More and more people were going to school and it was changing their social class and income. The vehicle for the american dream was education. They are norms such as saying hello when starting a conversation: this is important in a historical sense, societies change in a way that they operate: economy and politics so to then should school. In earlier grades there are a lot of female teachers they take the role of the mother. The days in school are very closely regulated to the work life. If everyone was a day labourer then things wouldn"t get done. We don"t have huge changes this is a pretty well established fact. Functionalists believe that society functions like an organism if you take something apart from it, it will not work but all together it works well is because everything works together well.
