Document Summary

Case study: ocd and related disorders - case 2. After reading vincent mancini"s case i feel that body dysmorphic disorder would be an appropriate diagnosis. The dsm-5 diagnostic criteria match mr. mancini"s symptoms and behaviors. The first criteria is a preoccupation with one or more perceived defects or flaws in physical appearance that are not observable or appear slight to others. Although mr. mancini was excessively preoccupied with many aspects of his body that he referred to as flaws , other people did not notice these flaws or physical defects. The second criteria is performing repetitive behaviors in response to appearance concerns. Mr. mancini would spend 5-6 hours a day checking himself in mirrors, he would excessively style his hair, would pick his skin and would try to make himself look bigger by wearing multiple layers of shirts. The third criteria is that the preoccupation causes clinically significant distress or functional impairment.
