Continuation of classic philosophy: new arrangement of the ancient world. Hellenistic period greek dominated: alexander the great was responsible conquered all of ancient world. City of alexander: people of all backgrounds participated, religious cults based on greek philosophy and art developed, science was born because of philosophy, museums and library. Philosophy changed in two perspectives: became cosmopolitan (not limited by language, culture, etc. , knowledge became practical and was used in rational politics, instead of pass time for scholars. What happened between 529 ad and 1600: 529: justinian forbade philosophy once and for all. Wanted to center society on christianity: closed platonic academy and other schools of philosophy, academy of plato existed for 916 years until justinian closed it. Philosophy: intellectual mechanism to keep our inevitable errors out of our knowledge. The community of open minded and mutualy critical individuals not islolated from other communities. Theology: a belief that some privilege people will never be in error.
