Document Summary

Functional behavior assessment (fba): process that includes whole set of assessment tools. Ab design: simple but shouldnt use; doesnt ever show functional relationship. Never tells you if theres confounding variables. Confounding variable: alternate explanation for why kid isnt responding to intervention; ex- good student does bad when theyre sick. Abab (reversal) design: sequence application going back & forth bt baseline & not/enforcing intervention; shows decrease in behavior from intervention. Shouldnt use for academic or dangerous behaviors. Dependent variable: student behavior you want to change; y axis. Changing criterion design: used to shape a behavior. Multiple baseline design: used alot; shows functional relationship from many ab design results. Independent variable: teacher intervention being used to change behavior; x axis. Functional relationship: proof that dependent var. (student behavior) changes from manipulation of independent var. (teacher intervention) Alternating treatments design: compares 2+ very diff alternating interventions on 1 kid; used for quick answers to find most effective intervention.
