Vertical integration in the movie industry: controlling all parts of an industry"s supply chain achieves vertical integration. In the film business, this means managing the entire movie making process--from the development of an idea to the screening of the final product before an audience. Block booking: an early tactic of movie studios to control exhibition involving pressuring theater operators to accept marginal films with no stars in order to get access to films with the most popular stars. Although this practice was eventually outlawed as monopolistic, such contracts enabled the studios to test- market possible up-and-coming stars at little financial risk.
