Language development: know sequence of language development, able to perceive difference between sounds of all language: 1 month, begins babbling (making sounds of all langs): 7 mos. When you are babbling, you are not imitating your parents. Whole process is done by speaking w/ full & grammatical sentences by age 3- capable but still need to learn more words but fully developed at this point. How do kids learn words (experience dependent: experience is very important. The more parents talk to babies, more words will be learnt. More words known leads to better reading comprehension. More counting games (snakes, ladders, go fish, etc. ) leads to better math skills: words are learned through repetition and memorization (experience dependent, how do kids know what adult is referring to when adult labels an object. Ex: clip and horn are the whole object not just part of it. Describe object after name of object is learned by child.
