Document Summary

Behaviorism (watson: theory of human development that studies observable behavior. Learning theory b/c it describes the laws and processes by which behavior is learned. Conditioning: process by which responses become linked to particular stimuli and learning takes place. Conditioning is used to emphasize the importance of repeated practice. Classical conditioning (pavlov: meaningful stimulus gradually comes to be connected with neutral stimulus that had no meaning before the learning process began. Ex) smell of food to a hungry animal becomes connected with neutral stimulus; a bell: leads to reaction from a neutral stimulus even without the meaningful one. Rewards & punishments: positive reinforcement- any consequences that follows a behavior and makes the person likely to repeat that behavior". Social learning theory (bandura: other people influence each person"s behavior. The theory"s basic principle is that even without specific reinforcement, every individual learns many things through observation and imitation of other people.
