How meaning is made and transferred through people, approaches to meaning and meaning making: Meaning is in words : similar to the linear model of communication i say something, you hear it and understand it. Thinks that if you speak the same language as another person, miscommunication should never happen. If you understand the definition of a word, there is no way you should misinterpret something: all you have to do is look up every definition of a word to understand what is happening. Meaning is in people : similar to the developmental perspective (intimacy, meaning resides in another person and you can pick up on the relational aspect. Interpret what the other person is trying/attempting to say is the most important thing. People create non-natural meaning through signals: we are trying to accomplish something when we use a symbol. Signals are intentional actions we use words or do things for particular purposes, we try to accomplish particular goals.
