First civilization: agriculture, the first true civilization on planet earth developed in. Mesopotamia, and was built by people know as the sumerians abound 8500 bc. The sumerians occupied the lower half of the tigris-euphrates valley, roughly the area presently known as iraq. Although their land had a hot, dry, wind-swept climate the sumerians proved to be resourceful by cultivating plants and animals. The sumerians discovered that certain grasses could be domesticated which could be used for brual or oatmeal. It was also discovered that these grains could be stored. In order to water the agriculture and control the water irrigations systems (dikes, levees, channels) were built. People who emerged as leaders were the priests. Therefore they believed the answer was to get the priest to try and stop it. Priest are trying to understand god and are noticing seasons. In order to appease god priest ask for a 10th of wheat.
