Differ from european sociologists: more interested in form, took action, more specific to american issues (race) Basic sociology: gain knowledge, make people aware, spencer. Public sociology: pass laws, influence passing of laws. Applied sociology: apply changes, du bois and addams. Major theories: importance of theory, fact- never interpret themselves, theory- how 2 or more facts relate.
