Society, how they are connected together and how society provides a function to remain the society as a whole. How it changes in one part and another part to compensate for change: conflict theory- Extends from the ideas of the 1800"s (from karl marx) The economy is the most important part of any society. How we sell goods and services, is how we survive. Relation to the means of production- sell it or make it. Capitalism is bound to fail- because it is based on profits. Trying to always undercut your competitor- supply and demand. Lots of things are out of their control- you can control labor costs- laying off, little pay, healthy enough to come to work, work them hard. Workers talk together and take over means of production themselves. *-competition drives society: symbolic interactionism (george h. mead)- Significant symbols are symbols that have various meanings to society. Ex: flags, crosses, gestures (thumbs up), language (primary)
