Introduction: stratification- structured social inequality or, more specifically, systematic inequalities between groups of people that arise as intended or unintended consequences of social processes and relationships. Stratification systems: serve economic functions, create social boundaries and organize social contact, are legitimated through ideology, or cultural beliefs that justify inequality. Theories of stratification: functionalism- society, like a biological organism, is made up of many subsystems. People protect their access to these resources and exclude others from them by exercising power: struggle, power, coercion, conflict theory of stratification, the unequal distribution of resources and rewards reflects the class interests. Mexico: pretty good population curve, immigration- from us citizens. Ix: most people are ethnic thai, decreasing population by 2040, corruption is a major issue. Japan: 4 main island, falling growth rate is due to no net immigration. Pakistan: population is growing- very bottom heavy population pyramid, food scarcity is an issue, economy- mixed system, major industry, industrial sector, agriculture.
