Girls are praised for gender nonconformity: boundary maintenance i don"t feel comfortable with this , kellys father not wanting them to sleep in the same area. 42 structured interviews with parents that have 3-5 year old boys, girls or both: focused on activities, clothing, toys and behavior, themes happened from observation, gender non-conformity. All findings: celebration of female non conformity, celebration of males domestic behaviors, empathy and nurturing, fathers less enthusiastic and more likely to offer roles. Icons of femininity: negative responses to, pink, nail polish, ballet, frilly, barbie. Problem solving: men and women talk at a cross-purpose. Women have a different purpose: men want to problem solve, women just want their perspective validated.
