Midterm review: what are the difficulties we are likely to encounter in studying the economic history of the. Investigations of data into the agricultural sector has prevented us from being able to analyze land ownership, and the productivity rates of them since it is scarce. As for the manufacturing sector, little is also known on productivity rates of individual sectors in textiles, and relationship of wages to prices. As a result, we have not been able to achieve a systematic approach to studying the economic history of the middle east. No other region has presented as much data in terms of documentary sources than egypt which is why it can be common sometimes for global comparisons to be solely relied on egypt"s history. Statistical data from arab sources was hard to convert as well. Past investigations of the agricultural sector have includednot very thorough coverage of landholding patterns, and almost no studies of productivity rates .
