Neurophysiology is how the nervous system functions on a cellular level. Our bodies are filled with salt water and by controlling the movement and distribution of ions, cells can communicate. It goes in the same direction of positive charges. The water and salt is basically in 2 compartments: intracellular or extracellular and what separates them is the cellular membrane. It is useful to have a ballpark knowledge of the 5 ion concentrations (k, na, cl, ca, large anions) The charges roughly balance on each side of the membrane overall.
