Strike- direction of line formed by a horizontal plane and a bedding plane. Dip- acute angle between a bedding plane and the horizontal, measured perpendicular to strike. Strain- any change in the original size or shape of an object in response to stress acting on the object. Compression- a force that squeezes together or shortens a rock. Tension- a force that stretches a body and tends to pull it apart. Shear- a force that pushes two sides of a body in opposite directions. Deformed body that returns to original size and shape when stress is removed.
