In the 1780"s, the sales of tobacco decreased. Due to this, many were not sure what the future for slaves would look like. As many of the southerns migrated to the west in hopes for better opportunities, there were people who remained on the east to try and nd other ways to ensure income. A man named eli whitney, who lived in georgia, invented the cotton gin in the early 1790s. This is the invention that people say revived the southern economy. There was a rise in demand for cotton, which lead southerns to lead exporting to other countries. 1800s, cotton was produced pro tably basically anywhere in the south. It was not only produced by large plantations, but by small white families with very little slaves. Europe"s textile system as basis for the cotton gin. By 1808, many people were aware that the slave trade would end, so the purchasing of slaves increased.
