Diphenhydramine (benadryl) treats allergies; h1 receptor. Antagonist; antihistamine: topical treats rashes; im/iv for severe allergic rxns; Iv = inject @ rate of 25mg/min. Im = inject deep into large muscle: blocks h1 receptors anticholinergic effects b/c its 1st generation (dry mouth, tachycardia, mild hypotension) 2: inhalation, nasal spray (relief of runny nose); wait 2-3 min. between dosages. Montelukast (singulair) anti-inflammatory drug for asthma. B12 & iron absorption depend on acidic environment, deficiency may occur: avoid nsaids, smoking, alcohol, educate s/s gi bleeding & resp. infections. Follow w/ a(cid:374)other 8 oz. fluid or seeds (cid:449)o(cid:374)"t s(cid:449)ell and cause peristalsis. Insufficient fluid can cause obstruction or pain/heartburn: rule out obstruction before administering!! Distention, pain, absent bowel sounds or high squeaky ones: powder thick & cloudy, may take 1-3 days to take effect, educate: fiber, fluids, & exercise. Diphenoxylate w/ atropine (lomotil) antidiarrheal; opioid: lomotil = locomotion = slows down the locomotion of intestine.
