Document Summary

Name: some hair cells of the vestibular system respond to head tilt (linear acceleration) whereas others respond to head movement (angular acceleration). In the macula of the utricle and saccule and in the crista ampularis of the semicircular canals: some hair cells respond to head tilt by depolarizing whereas others respond to the same stimulus by hyperpolarizing. Hair cells on either side of the striola in the same macula respond to tilt in opposite fashion. Some hyperpolarize and others depolarize: some hair cells respond to rightward movement of the head whereas other hair cells respond to leftward movement. We can call both the mlf (medial longitudinal fasciculus); the ascending axons must be called mlf but the descending axons can be called medial vestibulospinal tract (mvst). 2: you cut a section through a pure motor nerve that carries axons from spinal cord to the biceps muscle of the arm.
