Edward r. murrow is highly recognized for being a radio personality who brought news of war and political scandals to the american public. He gives a speech and says that the mass media in america distracts the public from the real issues of america. In the 1940s and 1950s americans were very concerned about the threat of communism, Senator joseph mccarthy made a public accusation that 200 communists were in the government and no one stood up against him in case they were targeted. People had to sign a loyalty statement to america and people signed it because they were in fear of getting fired or being targeted. Murrow and his producer fred want to start investigating people being deported and accused of being communists without probable cause. The air force comes to their office and tells them that they are strongly against the piece being put on tv, but they do it anyways.
