UWP 1 Study Guide - Midterm Guide: History Of Chinese Americans, George Bernard Shaw, Central Pacific Railroad
Document Summary
Encouraging positivity may seem right, making one hopeful. As students continue their education, they learn the true stories of the past. Learning false history may be detrimental to children"s future. Discovering the disappointing reality can be shocking and have a negative impact. An example of an incomplete story is the history of the chinese railroad workers who contributed to building the united states transcontinental railroad; many details of this part of history are often modified or not mentioned at all. I want to encourage educators to reconsider their teaching on the transcontinental railroad and other harsh histories to avoid misinterpretations. During the 19th century, there was a rebellion within china, and many chinese decided to move to the united states to find a better job and lifestyle. Many, however, were only offered difficult, dangerous jobs, like work for the central pacific, building the transcontinental.
