Words in different languages may have a similar category but have slightly different meanings. We cannot make assumptions they mean the same thing. Diversity in underlying logic of kinship ties. Words for kin members do not mean the same thing in different languages. This is how we became family, our family ties is the topic of kinship. Kinship is a central component of social organization. For example families can be an economic unit and a political unit. They are special people and can qualitatively be sorted out from other people. a. ii. People we stand together and support us. a. iii. Solidarity is diffuse which is expressed through all sorts of aspects of our lives. A list of words used by speakers of a particular language for their category of kin. A description of actual genealogical relationships between people. Nuclear family: direct family like mom, dad, brother and sister. Extended family: is the nuclear family plus aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
