Things can have instrumental and intrinsic value: education is an example, it improves the quality of our lives and helps us gets jobs, good health, allows us to do things. Actions have to have a goal/end they are trying to accomplish. Actions are aimed at something that is good: people think what they are doing is good or the right thing, we perform actions for the sake of something else. Existentialism seems to have a very strong sense of free will. That is a happy life: that is the first question of morality. 1/24/17: safest way to attain a life of most pleasure possible, be moral whenever you can be to increase chances of living the most pleasurable life.
