Peacekeeping in africa started in the 20th century with the united nations and has been a controversial issue since then. African peacekeeping missions have the potential capability to be more efficient than international ones, but it is evident they can only do so with adequate support from western powers. Regardless of african troops receiving the help they need along with maintaining autonomy, this will take a lot of cooperation from both parties and probably will not occur anytime soon due to the difficulty of compromising on this conflict. Many people would perceive that international peacekeeping missions will always have the upper hand over african- led missions because of resources, but resources are not always sufficient enough to be successful. With the right reforms, knowledge and aid from international powers, african peacekeeping missions can be shaped into being more efficient multilateral intervention forces in the future because of the emotional ties they hold with the countries in africa.
