Have the patient smell each substance in each nostril while closing the other one with their finger and correctly identifying them. Test the peripheral eyesight by going behind the patient and asking them to look at a fixed object straight ahead. Next, you wiggle your fingers as you slowly bring your hands around each side of their face until they can see them. The snellen eye chart is used for visual acuity. Have the patient stand 20 feet away and choose the smallest line they can read to read to you out loud while covered one eye at a time. Have the patient look at a far fixed object which will make the pupils dilate and shine the light pen on one eye the other eye should equally constrict.
