Types of tissues: 4 types of tissues, epithelial / connective tissue more general / wide distribution in the body. Epithelial tissue: cover body structures, allows the body to interact with internal and external environment lines hollow organs, body cavities and ducts forms glands. Connective tissue: protects and supports body/organs, various types of connective tissues bind organs together, help provide body with immunity to disease causing organisms store energy reserves as fat. Muscular tissue: composed of cells specialised for contraction and generation of force, generates heat to warm body. Nervous tissue: detects changes in variety of conditions inside and outside of body responds by generating electrical signals called nerve action potentials that activate muscular contractions/glandular secretions. Cell junctions: = point of contact between the plasma membranes of tissue cells, 5 important types tight junctions, adherens junctions, desmosomes, hemidesmosomes and gap junctions.
