There are five major perspectives we can use to view any disorder. These are broad, theoretical approaches to the problem. As with any theory, no one approach is right or correct . All of them are useful ways to look at the problem. Note that each perspective has implications for treatment a topic that we will look at in the next chapter. The biological perspective suggests that a disorder results from brain damage or chemical imbalance. Typically, the imbalance will be in a neurotransmitter.
