LING 3P97 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8, 10: Noise Floor, Eilat, Basilar Membrane
Document Summary
Immittance audiometry: battery of the middle ear measures, including tympanometry and acoustic reflexes. Auditory evoked responses: electrical potentials evoked by sound; include the auditory brainstem responses, middle latency responses, late latency responses, and otoacoustic emissions. Admittance: a measure of how much of the applied energy flows through the system, such that a high admittance system has a greater flow of energy. Ohms: unit of measurement for impedance; also used for electrical resistance. Millimhos: unit of measurement for admittance; 1/1000 of an mho. Immittance: term used to encompass both admittance and impedance. Probe tone: the tone used in immittance testing that is applied through the probe in the ear canal, and which is used to monitor changes in admittance. Tympanometry: measures how the admittance changes as a function of applied air pressure and how this function is affected by different conditions of the middle ear.
