Statistics: the science of collecting and analyzing data to interpret and draw conclusions about a population. Statistics is able to use given information to nd patterns amongst virtually any topic of interest. Average cost of tuition, causes for diseases, political campaigns, stock markets are just some. Population: the entire group of interest to be studied. Sample: a subset of the population that being studied. Numerical information about the sample is called a statistic. Individual: a person or object that is a member of the population of interest. Example 1: imagine you are interested in nding the amount of money a brock university student spends in a month. Sample- could be 1st year students, students in health sciences individual- any one brock. Americans were asked in a home survey if they wanted donald trump to be president. Americans who answered, it was found that 55% of americans want him to be president.
