First league was called the national league and then in 1903 an agreement was signed between the national league and the american league which established the mlb. Early on there were many rival leagues like the federal league and the players league due to players objecting to managements rules. Currently has 30 teams and is split up into 2 different sub-leagues. Tv had a critical role in the survival of the rival league. Established in 1924 and then got disbanded in 1947 and then the basketball association of america emerged. The baa was renamed to the nba and the nbl no longer existed. In 1967 the rival american basketball association formed, however 10 years later the two leagues reached an agreement. Currently has 30 teams in two conferences. Started in 1917 with four teams located all in canada.
