Race flawed system of classification with no biological basis, that uses certain physical characteristics to divide the human population into supposedly discrete groups. Racism individual thoughts and actions an institutional patterns and policies that create unequal access to power, resources and opportunities based on imagined differences among groups. Human genetics reveal no biologically distinct human groups. Humans are almost identical, sharing more than 99. 9 % of our dna. Race is not fixed in nature but is created, perpetuated and changed by people through individual and collective action. Fuzzy boundaries in a well integrated gene pool: Interconnected gene pool, swapping genetics material back and forth (interbreeding) Migrate out of africa - result of this gene flow, human variation changes gradually over geographic space in a continuum (cline) not by abrupt shifts or clearly marked groups. Have been enculturated to believe that very small number of traits can serve to categorize people into distinct groups and predict larger genetic patterns.
