However, a new report suggests that text may have a longer run, at least for news. Consumption of online news video is still a minority behaviour around the world, the researchers found only about a quarter of respondents across 26 countries watched news video online in-a-given week. Online news is more important than television news. Drilling down on types of online news, 51% use social media as a source of news each (cid:449)eek, (cid:449)hile (cid:1005)(cid:1006)% of all sur(cid:448)eyed say it"s their (cid:373)ai(cid:374) source. Social media alone edged out tv as the main news source. Print came in slowly at 6% and at just 12% for those aged older than 55. More than half of the respondents (53%) use a smartphone to get news.
