Planetesimals developed first from colliding of particles, they then collided after enough were formed making the planets. The moon has no plate tectonics or active volcanoes. Moon formed by impact with mars sized object which occurred during the earth"s formation about 4. 5 billion yrs ago. Moon has two distinct features the bright lowlands and the dark maria with the highlands being older. Most of the moon"s features were made by impacts by various solid objects. Mercury has huge temp variations between day and night due to being so close to the sun and having no atmosphere which was driven off by the solar wind and lack of gravity. Mercury makes 3 spins for every 2 orbits around the sun.
